The Folly of the Democratic Healthcare Debate by Jacob G. Hornberger

It was so amusing watching the Democratic presidential candidates get embroiled in an argument over which one of them has the best healthcare plan. Medicare for all or Medicare for some? Abolition of private insurance or optional private insurance? Reform Obamacare this way or that way? How to pay for each candidates healthcare plan?

And of course, the debate commentators were totally transfixed and fascinated by the discussion, given that they too have long been searching for some "comprehensive healthcare plan" that will finally bring an end to the United States of Americas decades-long, ongoing healthcare crisis.

At this risk of raining on this healthcare parade, it is not going to happen.

No matter what plan they come up with, it is not going to work. That is what these people just cannot get into their minds.

Notice something important thing about the entire debate and discussion among the Democratic candidates: Obamacare did not work.

If it had worked, they would not be having this discussion. They would not feel compelled to come up with new healthcare reform plans. It Obamacare had brought an end to the United States of Americas healthcare crisis, everyone would just be celebrating.

But they clearly are not celebrating.

Instead, they are doing the same thing that Barack Obama did before he got Obamacare enacted. They are lamenting the United States of Americas decades-long, ongoing healthcare crisis, one that has obviously continued notwithstanding the enactment of Obamacare.

The end of this road!

And make no mistake about it: Even if any of these candidates gets his healthcare reform plan enacted, it is not going to stop there, any more than it stopped after Obamacare was enacted.

The healthcare crisis will continue, which means that there will be more discussions, debates, and arguments over whose new "comprehensive healthcare reform plan" should be adopted.

There is but one possible outcome at the end of this interventionist road: a complete federal takeover of healthcare, just like in Cuba.

In fact, although these people will not admit it, the Cuban healthcare system is their model - a healthcare system that is completely owned and operated by the federal government, one in which all the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers are federal employees, all medical facilities are owned by the federal government, and everyone is guaranteed government-provided "healthcare."

Why is it impossible for these people to come up with a healthcare reform that will work?

The answer is simple: Socialism cannot be made to work. It is an inherently defective system. The United States of America’s healthcare system is not "broken," as the mainstream media often suggests. It is inherently defective, which means it cannot be fixed at all.

Medicare and Medicaid

Sure, it is not a full and complete socialist system yet, like in Cuba.

But central to the United States of Americas healthcare system are Medicare and Medicaid, two gigantic socialist programs that form the core of Americas healthcare system.

It was the enactment of these two socialist programs that ended up destroying the finest healthcare system in history, one that was largely based on principles of the free market and voluntary charity.

This is what both Democrats and Republicans and their statist counterparts in the mainstream media just do not get.

They continue to believe that the United States of Americas healthcare crisis can be resolved by leaving Medicare and Medicaid intact.

It will not happen. It can not happen. Those two programs are the core reason why the United States of America has an ongoing, never-ending healthcare crisis.

Medicare and Medicaid are two large cancerous tumors on the body politic. As long as they are permitted to exist, all the reform efforts in the world will accomplish nothing and will instead actually make things worse.

There is but one way to treat a cancerous tumor - remove it or eradicate it.

There is but one solution to the United States of Americas healthcare crisis: Repeal Obamacare, Medicare, Medicaid, and all other government interventions into healthcare.

A total separation of healthcare and the state. A totally free-market healthcare system. Nothing else will work.

The free market produces the best of everything. Socialism produces the worst of everything.

When United States of Americans finally realize that trying to fix a socialist system is a foods errand and that only a free-market healthcare system will work, we will be on our way toward restoring a healthy, vibrant, and functional healthcare system to our land.
