January 6 versus Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Uvalde by Jacob G. Hornberger

On April 20, 1999, 12th-grade students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students and one teacher at Columbine High School in Colorado. The weapons they used were a 9mm TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun and double-barreled shotguns.

On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. He used an AR-15 rifle.

On May 24, 2022, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, with an AR-15 rifle. He used the weapon to kill 19 students.

On January 6, 2021, nine people died in connection with what United States officials claim was a violent attempt to take over the Capitol and overthrow the United States government as part of a so-called insurrection.

There is a big difference, however, with the deaths that took place at Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Uvalde and the deaths that took place during the so-called insurrection at the Capitol.

Oddly enough, only one of the deaths on January 6 was the result of a weapon being fired. Even more oddly, none of the so-called insurrectionists fired the weapon. In fact, it was one of the so-called insurrectionists who got shot and killed. Her name was Ashli Babbitt. She was unarmed and shot to death by a Capitol policeman who panicked, became afraid, and shot Ms Babbitt to death.

Ms Babbitt was not the only so-called insurrectionist who died on January 6. Rossane Boyland, another so-called insurrectionist, also died. The cause of her death was an accidental drug overdose.

Then there was Benjamin Philips, another so-called insurrectionist. He died of a stroke.

Finally, there was Kevin Green, another so-called insurrectionist. He died of a heart attack.

So, out of the nine deaths arising from the so-called January 6 insurrection, four of them were so-called insurrectionists, one of whom was unarmed when she was shot and killed by a Capitol policeman.

That leaves the other five people who died on January 6. They were Capitol policemen. How did they die? Oddly enough, not by an AR-15, a TEC-9 handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, or, for that matter, any other weapon.

Officer Brian Sicknick died of multiple strokes hours after confronting the so-called insurrectionists.

Officers Jeffrey Smith, Howard Liebengood, Gunther Hashida, and Kyle DeFreytag also opposed the so-called insurrection on January 6. They also died. How did they die? Again, not because any of the so-called insurrectionists fired a weapon at them. Instead, all four of them died of suicide sometime after the so-called insurrection.

What boggles the mind is why the so-called insurrectionists failed to use AR-15s, TEC-9 handguns, sawed-offed shotguns, and other weaponry to do what the killers at Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Uvalde did. Surely, the so-called insurrectionists knew about the existence of such weapons and the ease by which they could be acquired. It would seem that any genuine insurrectionist would know that killing a mass number of people would be necessary for a successful insurrection and that weapons would be necessary to do the killing.

Thus, the so-called insurrection on January 6 has to go down in history as the most unusual insurrection in history, one where people died from heart attacks, strokes, drug overdoses, and suicides, and where an unarmed woman got shot by a panicked, frightened Capitol policeman.

Thus, the death toll in the January 6 so-called insurrection was, in fact, high. But let us count our blessings. If the so-called insurrectionists had done what the killers did at Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Uvalde, the death toll at the so-called insurrection would have been much higher.
