Your Crumbs Are On The Way

The anoucement that 100 more police officers are coming to Staten
Island is supposed to quiet the growing public furor about their staff
shortage that has surely gone on Way Too Long.

There was a multiple car accident outside of my apartment building
recently; I called 911 and, gee whiz, it only took two hours for the
police to finally arrive.

Mayor Bloomberg is going to " give " Staten Island 100 more police
officers when Staten Island needs 300 more Police Officers and the
cars to go with them.

Most of the time when I get off of the ferry in lower Manhattan, I
see plenty of parked police cars and sometimes a mobile command
trailer to co-ordinate the " police escort convoys " that race around
Manhattan.

I get envious and irate because Staten Island is New York
City's Stepchild and " completely under the mayor's radar screen ".

On the next block from the 120th Police Precinct cars park on the
sidewalk, but are never ticketed; forcing people to walk in the street.

Main Streets or side streets it does not make any difference - cars park
on Staten Island's sidewalks anywhere, and at any time, without any fear
of getting a ticket and the citizen walking must walk in the street.

Staten Island desperately needs more Police Officers. Even more
desperately Staten Island needs a complete reversal of police
" just look the other way " attitude towards their diligence and
devotion to their oath and moral duty!!
