Republicans Fail Again By Laurence M. Vance!
When I was a teacher, I gave an F to scores on tests or assignments that were below 60. This means that Republicans have failed again.
The latest Republican scores can be found in "The Freedom Index: A Congressional Scorecard Based on the United States Constitution." The Freedom Index "rates congressmen based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements." It is published by The New American magazine, where I am a contributing columnist.
The new edition of The Freedom Index is the third for the 118th Congress, and looks at ten key measures. Scores are derived by dividing a congressmans constitutional votes by the total number of votes cast and multiplying by 100. So, the higher the score the better.
This edition tracks congressional votes in the House on IRS firearms and ammunition, defunding OSHA, impeachment of the Secretary of Homeland Security, consolidated appropriations, further consolidated appropriations, FISA reauthorization, Ukraine aid, carbon sequestration, federal police grants, and central bank digital currency.
It tracks votes in the Senate on auditing the Fed, the United States military in Syria, counting noncitizens in the census, consolidated appropriations, free speech, further consolidated appropriations, greenhouse gas emissions, surveilling U.S. citizens, FISA reauthorization, and foreign aid.
The average Democratic House score was 5 percent; the average Republican House score was 56 percent. The average Democratic Senate score was 7 percent; the average Republican Senate score was 59 percent.
Thirteen Republican members of the House and five of the Senate earned a perfect score of 100. I do not ever remember seeing more Republicans achieve a perfect score. However, because the average Republican scores were 56 and 59 percent, it is accurate to say that the Republicans have failed again.
Several bills in the House stand out. The majority of Republicans voted with the majority of Democrats to reauthorize FISA. Over 100 Republicans voted with every Democrat who voted to give billions more to Ukraine. The majority of Republicans voted with the majority of Democrats to not only fund the unconstitutional departments, agencies, and programs of the federal government, but also to give $300 million to Ukraine and $500 million to Israel.
Several bills in the Senate stand out. Only four Republicans voted with Sen. Rand Paul for a resolution that would direct the president to remove United States armed forces "from hostilities in or affecting Syria." The majority of Republicans voted with the majority of Democrats to not only fund the unconstitutional departments, agencies, and programs of the federal government, but also to give $300 million to Ukraine and $500 million to Israel. The majority of Republicans voted with the majority of Democrats to reauthorize FISA and to give billions more in foreign aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. Only ten Republicans voted with Sen. Rand Paul for an amendment to prohibit federal citizens from requesting orders under FISA to surveil United States citizens.
The majority of Republicans-including ones that will tell you how "conservative" they are at election time-are not only enemies of the Constitution, they are also enemies of the American people. They want to take your money to fund unconstitutional programs and agencies and give the rest to foreign governments. They want the federal government to spy on you. They want to get involved in foreign conflicts.
Someone please tell me again why we need to vote for Republicans. The Republican Party and the majority of Republicans are just as evil as the Democrats.
